Buy a wireless network card
A wireless network card is now more than just a convenience, it's often a necessity. Being able to connect by cable, or to a so-called wired network, is rarely possible. Often only businesses, or those focusing on extremely high speeds, still have wired connections.
Therefore, a wireless network card is clearly essential. Fortunately, these are built into most modern devices. But as wireless networks evolve, they become faster and faster, and it's not certain that the network card you have will actually be compatible with new solutions.
External network card
An external network card can be a practical way to keep up with developments. Let's say you have an old laptop. So you also have an older network card. And it's not even certain that the card you have is still compatible with modern wireless networks. Maybe the network card can't handle the new network bands, or doesn't support a certain kind of compression required to connect. The reasons could be many.
Buying an external network card can avoid the need to buy a new computer. But these are also good for newer computers. An external network card is an inexpensive solution to get higher network speeds no matter what computer you have.
USB network card
USB network cards are probably the most practical. And clearly the most compatible with modern hardware. They work with virtually all computers and operating systems. Whether you use Windows, Mac or Linux. Often you don't have to do much more than plug in the USB adapter. And if your computer only supports up to the N standard for wireless networking, it's easy to buy a USB network card that supports the AC standard and use wireless networking at even higher speeds.
