Refurbished Macbook
Why buy a refurbished Macbook, instead of a new one?
Owning a laptop is more common than ever. We live and work on the move in ways that few could have predicted ten or twenty years ago, while access to fixed and mobile internet only gets better and better every year. Unfortunately, quality laptops are still a costly proposition - it's not uncommon for a laptop to cost as much (or more) than the desktop version.
The old adage that it costs what it tastes is probably never more true than when we're talking about Macbooks - Apple's laptops that have become a beloved classic for discerning business owners and professional enthusiasts alike around the world. There's just something about using a Macbook and Apple's own Mac OS operating system - especially if you use it for work or for creative purposes like photo and video editing or music.
Unfortunately, the price tag for Macbooks is as (un)famous as the quality. That's why it's best to look at the second-hand market to save money. Fortunately, Macbooks are generally so well built and optimised that their lifespan is significantly longer than other brands of laptops - so buying a used Macbook is a smarter move than doing the same for a Windows machine. Smarter still is investing in a refurbished Macbook.
But what is a refurbished Macbook? The term may be unfamiliar to many consumers and easily draws thoughts of used, but there are important differences to keep in mind. You buy a used Macbook in its current condition - exactly as it is when it goes on sale. If you're lucky, the computer will be in good condition, but it could just as easily be that several components of the computer have seen better days - the battery in particular is often the first to go on a laptop. Even more likely, the Macbook hasn't undergone any kind of upgrade or professional service, as the closed Apple "ecosystem" makes it nearly impossible for the average person to replace parts in a Macbook.
A refurbished Macbook, unlike a used one, has been brought in by a competent dealer who thoroughly inspects, function tests, cleans, resets and, not least, replaces weak components with new ones. Often this work is carried out by an experienced technician, with all the specialist knowledge and bespoke tools required. This allows things like worn batteries, bad screens and loose keys to be repaired, and the machine suddenly gets a new lease of life and an extended lifespan. Think of it all as a very thorough health check, with a digital doctor also replacing your old parts with new ones, making you feel young again.
This kind of upgrade is especially powerful when we're talking about a refurbished Macbook - or reconditioned as it's called in English - because the components in Apple's products are high quality from the start. By paying less for a used computer, you avoid the high entry price of the device on the market, and at the same time, you are assured that the parts in your refurbished Macbook are likely to be original parts that will last for a long time. In fact, Apple laptops have a relatively steady curve in how well-optimized the units are, and as long as you buy a refurbished Macbook that's within a generation of the current one, the performance will feel very close to the newest new one.
What are the benefits of buying a refurbished Macbook?
Beyond the purely technical benefits - that you're getting a strong machine that you know has been inspected and is up to scratch - there are obvious financial reasons to invest in a refurbished Macbook. As we've mentioned, prices for new Macbooks are high, and the differences in performance aren't always dramatic enough to justify buying this year's models. Instead, it's not at all uncommon to see Mac users still using Macbooks from several years ago, without seeing a noticeable dip in how efficient the machine is.
Therefore, it makes sense to avoid expensive flagships, and instead go for a Macbook that is a few years old (within reason) to find the happy medium between price and performance. This is where refurbishment becomes a strong option, as you'll be paying second-hand price tags for hardware that has been updated.Warranty is also an important issue that many people don't think about when it comes to second-hand or refurbished units, but there's a better chance that a refurbished Macbook will still have this and that you can invoke it. When you buy from Billigteknik, a 1 year warranty is included, but often up to 2 years (we will also help you with warranty issues with the supplier). In addition, we rate our computers according to class A, B and C - so that you as a customer know the quality level of the refurbished Macbook you are interested in.
A somewhat overlooked but oh-so-important aspect of modern technology is the environmental impact it has on our world. Producing devices as extremely complex as laptops requires a lot of resources, metals and advanced electronics. All of this is also produced in factories with demanding handling and chemical processes that can hardly be considered environmentally friendly. That's why a refurbished Macbook is a climate-smart choice, as you're investing in the reuse of a device that would otherwise likely end up in a scrapyard - and you, the customer, would have paid dearly for a newly manufactured laptop. Carbon emissions are particularly affected when we create new technology, so your purchase of a refurbished Macbook actually minimises your carbon footprint.
What should I consider when buying a refurbished Macbook?
In addition to what we've already gone through, it's important to remember that Apple laptops already have good quality and longevity from the start. It's always tempting to buy the new and hot, but in the case of Macbooks, you'll be at the forefront and have one of the best laptops on the market even if you go back one or more model years. A Macbook that's been serviced and has its digital health with it will handle work, editing software and all kinds of remote communication like a dance. With optimized memory and a custom operating system, you can't go wrong with a refurbished Macbook, whether you're a standard user who demands that it "just work" or a niche professional working in an Apple-based environment. We recommend you take an extra look at our refurbished Macbooks - it's a great deal for you and our nature, but not least - your wallet.
